ONE SEMESTER

Intensity of Discovery
Carefully conceived course offerings coupled with guided experiential learning activities bring coherence and purpose to an intensive AUCP Fall or Spring semester abroad. Curricular focus and personal guidance in the process of cross-cultural adaptation allow for remarkable academic and personal achievement in a few short months.

An AUCP student’s normal academic load is five courses.

Pre-enrollment choices should be indicated on the application form. Final enrollment takes place in Marseille after consultation with the AUCP administration.

FULL YEAR

Depth of Understanding
Ideally compatible with the AUCP's emphasis on depth and breadth of understanding, the full year program allows for both linguistic/cultural fluency and academic specialization. Full year students acquire skills worthy of the most ambitious international careers.

Normal academic load is five courses.

A January-term four-week internship option is available to Full year students having taken the fall semester class NGO’s: A French Perspective. Credit value and placement are decided in November on a case by case basis.

Required Courses One Semester:
Linguistic Strategies for Integration (Fr 330)
French and North African Cultural Patterns
(Fr 310)
Arabic Language and Culture (Arabic 109)
Two selections from the AUCP course list *

Required Courses Second Semester:
Cross Cultural Journalism (Fr 350)
Arabic Language and Culture (Arabic 159)
Three selections from the AUCP course list

The small average class size of AUCP courses makes for close personal interaction and guidance. Courses demand considerable outside work and follow-up, and are generally held on a once-a-week three-hour seminar basis. They can be team-taught. While each semester offers one to two-week breaks (generally in November, February and April) which allow for sensible travelling, the focus is upon serious academic work and in-depth involvement in the local community. Regular attendance is required.

*An optional third selection from the AUCP course list may be added with permission of the AUCP director and home university advisor.
