Application and Admission

The AUCP accepts students in good standing at American and Canadian colleges and universities.  An official or unofficial transcript and two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant’s academic work, level of French, and emotional maturity must accompany a student’s application.  Students are expected to have a 3.0 grade point average.  In exceptional cases, recent academic improvement or other special circumstances will be considered.

Students must have at minimum a high intermediate level in the French language.  This is generally understood as the equivalent of two years college French, or the ability to take a literature or other "subject matter" class in the language.  Graduate students and adult learners are welcome.  Like others, these students should make academic credit arrangements before coming.  First- and second-year students are considered in exceptional circumstances.    

The AUCP has a "rolling admissions" policy and thus does not have an official application deadline; however, places are limited and priority will be given to applications received by November 1 for the Spring semester and April 15 for the Fall semester.  The application fee is non-refundable.

Financial Arrangements

AUCP costs cover tuition and fees as well as housing on a demi-pension basis (seven breakfasts, five dinners a week plus Sunday lunches).  See links below for specific amounts and conditions.  Payments may be made in two installments according to a fee schedule communicated with the student’s admission packet. Federal and state grants and loans may be applied to foreign study.  For details, students should consult the study abroad and financial aid offices of their home university.

Trans-Atlantic Travel

In keeping with its emphasis on each individual’s authentic French experience abroad, the AUCP does not organize a group flight for its students. Students make their own travel plans, sometimes traveling in Europe before the program begins, communicate the details of their arrival, and are met at the Marseille train station or airport by their French host families.

The safety and well being of students participating in AUCP programs is of paramount importance.
